Now that you have finished using the Session Tool, you may feel a slight vibrating sensation in your head, chest, or body. Because the EMDR process repeatedly stimulates your brain and nervous system, people often describe this sensation as being like waking up suddenly from a deep sleep and feeling a bit disoriented. Don't worry this is completely normal and it will pass quickly. SESSION CLOSUREThe first thing you should do is take some deep breaths and become re-acquainted with your surroundings. Breathe in through your nose and into your belly-breathe out through your mouth. Do this as much as 10 times. Let yourself come fully back to the present and get acclimated to your surroundings. Relax.
REEVALUATIONNow that you are fully present, let’s look at your Impulse Rating, which means the level of your addictive urge. Ask yourself, on a scale of 0-10, how much do you still want to use or act out with your addiction now that your EMDR session is over? Did you Impulse Rating drop from the EMDR session?
Are you feeling better? During your session, what images came up in your mind? What feelings did you have? Are you feeling better about the issue or problem that prompted you to do a session today? Were you experiencing physical sensations in any part of your body? Did you feel a tightness in your chest or did you feel upset? Be sure to take a few minutes to write some notes about your session and how you are feeling. These notes can be invaluable reference points for future EMDR sessions. Consider keeping a file or a journal of your notes so you can track your progress over time. This ends the EMDR Session. Complete another session any time you feel your addiction symptoms coming on. As you continue to use Addiction EMDR more regularly, your brain will accept your new emotional state and your desire to act out in your addiction will become less and less. |
