FAQs

Suitability

Q: Is the EMDR for Addiction program suitable for everyone?

EMDR for Addiction is exactly the same as in-person EMDR therapy, but sessions are completed online instead of one-to-one in a therapist’s office. Our program uses an EMDR protocol specifically designed to treat addiction problems.

If you are unsure about using this program, consult with a mental health professional to determine whether EMDR-type therapy is suitable for you.

Q: Is online self-guided treatment the same as therapy with a professional therapist?

There are obviously differences between online self-guided EMDR treatment and traditional therapy led by a professional therapist. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. A professional therapist is able to help patients, especially novice users, with diagnosing their mental health issues, designing the most appropriate course of treatment, and customizing each session to the patient's specific needs. However, this typically comes at a cost of as much as $200 per session and may not be available to everyone or when needed.

On the other hand, an online self-guided treatment program - such as the EMDR for Addiction program - is ideal for users who are looking for a convenient and affordable alternative or to supplement or replace their EMDR sessions with a therapist.

Q: I am already doing EMDR therapy with my therapist. Can I use EMDR for Addiction at the same time?

Yes. Many people choose to use online EMDR to supplement their ongoing sessions with a therapist, using our program at home on days or weeks when they do not meet with their in-person mental health practitioner. Some therapists even choose to have their clients use online EMDR sessions between appointments. Choose a cycle that fits your treatment needs and budget.

You can also use the EMDR for Addiction program as your stand-by treatment option. There are times when unexpected addictive urges or triggers come up and you can benefit from immediate treatment to quickly deal with these.

Q: I have never used EMDR but a friend/family member/colleague suggested that I try it. Can I use EMDR for Addiction?

Absolutely. Learning to treat to your addiction issues with EMDR for Addiction can take a bit of practice, but you can quickly learn how to complete sessions on your own.

Q: How many treatment sessions will I need to fully resolve my addiction issue?

Every person's situation is different, therefore it is not possible to provide generalized guidelines on how many EMDR sessions might be needed for each individual.

Two separate scientific studies (Rothbaum-1997 and Lee, Gavriel, Drummond, Richards, & Greenwald-2002) have both indicated an elimination of symptoms in 83-90% of test subjects after only 4-7 sessions. Often resolution of symptoms will take 8-12 sessions, or in some cases 20 or even more sessions.

The EMDR for Addiction program comes with a complete 30 day money-back guarantee and offers unlimited sessions for a low monthly fee, providing an affordable way for you to get the number of treatments you need to address your addiction problem.
