BEGIN EMDR FOR ADDICTION SIMPLE SESSION
*If at any point you experience overwhelming, or powerful negative emotions during EMDR, pause your session and take a few breaths to help you come back to the present. If the emotions brought out by the EMDR session feel too overwhelming, you may want to end your session for the day.
PART I) DESENSITIZE NEGATIVE EMOTIONS
During this first part of your session, you will focus carefully on the Negative Emotions that are bothering you while at the same time using the EMDR Simple Session Tool.
Focus as much as possible on exactly what it is that it bothering you. Come up with a mental image or a series of images of what is causing you to have these Negative Emotions. Focus on how exactly it feels to have the anger, stress, or sadness you are struggling with.
Now use the EMDR Simple Session Tool for 2-5 minutes while mentally focusing on the Negative Emotions.
Listen to the audio tone as it moves from ear-to-ear and follow the moving visual object closely with your eyes while at the same time mentally focusing on the anger, sadness, or feelings or stress.
Using EMDR this way may cause old or long forgotten memories to come to the surface. Allow your mind to drift to any to any thoughts, feelings, or mental images that come up in your mind, but then refocus back to your Negative Emotions.

An important part of the EMDR brain reprogramming process is to end each session by focusing on a set of Positive Emotions to replace the Negative Emotions that you began your session with. In the EMDR therapy community, this is called Installation.
Instead of the Negative Emotions that prompted you to do an EMDR session today, imagine anything happy, joyous, or positive.
It's completely up to you.
Go back and use the EMDR Simple Session Tool now for another 2-5 additional minutes. This time, mentally focus instead on the Positive Emotions you selected to replace your Negatives.
When you are finished, take some deep breaths and let yourself come fully back to the present. Relax.
You should ideally be feeling somewhat better.
